You’ve turned into story time, Aussie style, with your host: The Jawn Man.

From the beautiful, unique landscape to meeting amazing people, to hearing sweet accents 24/7, Australia has been everything I had hoped and beyond. I came overseas with my girlfriend (who plays D3 Ultimate) and we were lucky enough to play together in a mixed league here. The league was very beginner oriented, and every team had a few experienced players and a ton of n00bs – our team no exception.

Kelly and I were each regarded as two of the top male and female players in the league, so we got stuck with a lot of beginners and only a few returning players. Our regular season was poor by win-loss record (finished 9th of 10 teams), but we got our rookies a lot of playing time and made great strides throughout, all while having by far the most fun of any team in the league.

To this day I can’t tell you what happened in the week between the end of the regular season and the start of finals (playoffs), but we weren’t the same team. We came together and played incredibly as a unit, knocking out team after team that had beaten us just weeks ago. The grand finale was against the most hated team in the league, run by the most hated player in the league (and coincidentally the commissioner). Every drunken soul on the sideline and their mother wanted us to take down the reigning champs, and take them down we did: 13-8. We went from near-worst to first.

Afterward, they announced awards for the league, and in addition to our team winning the championship, our team also won the spirit award and Kelly and I were voted male and female league MVPs. Safe to say we represented the USAU and Pitt pretty damn well.
