2006-2007
For 5 years of my life, I was a runner. In the spring of my freshman year of high school, I joined the track team, meaning to use it as conditioning for baseball, and proceeded to become obsessed with one of the simplest most beautiful sports on earth. I ran cross country and distance track for the rest of high school and went on to run for a year at The University of Portland. Much of who I am today, as an athlete and as a person, can be attributed to distance running. I am proud of my personal records, and they are as follows. 1600m-4:24, 3200m-9:27, 6000m-18:15, 8000m-25:40. Running was my passion, and I loved getting in the zone and just floating, sometimes for hours. Unfortunately, my body couldn’t handle the high intensity and high mileage that is expected in college, and it broke down. Like many of the guys on this team, I needed a new sport, and I turned to Ultimate.

I played 2 years of non-competetive Ultimate in Portland (intramurals, pick-up), and then started a competetive men’s team for the 2005-2006 year. I immersed myself deeper and deeper into the world of Ultimate. I simply couldn’t get enough. Small college tournaments were good, and so were the more laid-back summer mixed tournaments, but I wanted to take the next step.

In coming to Pitt as a grad student, I did my homework in more ways than one, and knew that this team had gone to nationals the last two years. I wanted to be a part of it. I was so excited, I could hardly wait. When I bought my Sabah discs at the activities fair, it was like Christmas.

So now, here I am. The last five months have been quite an experience for me. It has been a lot of fun, of course, but also frustrating at times, and has been a great learning experience. I want to become the best Ultimate player I can be, but more than that, I want to help this team be great. I want to give Sabah everything I have to give. I want to win 100 college championships in a row. Dream big, work hard, want it.
